Access to the Archive One of the main objectives of the Archive is to extend and improve public access to informative material held in the archive. Searches at the archive can be arranged. Material being viewed by researchers must remain under archive staff supervision until the material is placed back in the secure archive room. The Trustees reserve the right to vary and amend all or any conditions and scale of charges. We make no charge for physical access to the Archive material. However, copies of documents may be supplied subject to copyright and a small charge. Lectures and exhibitions, are advertised in Steeple Aston Life and in local libraries and museums. Specific items from our catalogue can normally be produced for research given reasonable notice.. The archive keeps only "paper" records such as photographs, books, documents, receipts, scrap-books, etc. No electronic equipment, or material of monetary value, are held in the archive.
Conditions associated with access Original material will not normally be allowed to leave the archive area and will not be supplied on loan, except to members of Archive project teams during their project work.
Privacy issues Material held in the archive may fall within the remit of Data Protection legislation. However desirable full disclosure of archive records may appear to be, in certain cases a legal requirement under Data Protection legislation may dictate that material must not be disclosed – for example, if living persons can be identified from it by the person viewing, and permission for disclosure has not been given. Donors of potentially sensitive data will normally be asked to give permission for their material to be released to public view, and for details to be held on computer, at the time the material is accepted. The wishes of the donor and/or data subjects, if known, will be adhered to in every case. In all cases the decision of the Trustees will be final. | ||||
